Farse

It withdrew her of whatever conversation that went on at the lunch table. The continuous talking of the man a few feet beyond her cutlery had such surprising effect on her. His unrelenting pedantry, the tireless ostentation and resolute displaying of his prodigious knowledge turned her invisible to the rest of lunch companions. The scene always left her with no other choice than to care about her munching and her thinking. Yet there were times the man in front of her touched a topic on which she happened to have more than a passing acquaintance. The man would stage once again his firm grasp of the issue yet equally solid feelings of suspicion would arouse on her silent companion. The inevitable extrapolation would bring a smile of amusement to her face as the pretentious, foolish display of the ongoing farce would dawn on her anew.
