Mimicry

[ST (Jan 27, 2006)]
There she is, at the table, delivering a speech, addressing an audience. She talks like him, like her former boss, a fact which dawns on me as the archetypal way in which prolonged proximity between any two given people manifests itself more clearly - excess of empathy, profuseness of mimicry. Archetypal yet bizarre at the same time. She's learned the lesson, passed the test with flying colours. The same tone, the same inflection in her voice, the same poise, grace, appeal, elegance, the same charisma to keep all stares from the audience fixed on her, all the delegates' attention focused, with the added value of her natural-born emotional intelligence, her charm and, why deny it, her beauty. Some people have such gift, some people have not.
