Noiseless lift

He and Eric wondered at the noiseless motion of the hotel lift, going up and down all day long in the utmost silence. Yet even worthier to notice than the lack of sound was the fact that the motion itself was barely noticeable, including those moments when the lift sped up or slowed down. It was as though it didn't accelerate at all, as if it defied the laws of physics and changed speed while behaving as an inertial system all along. They talked about it during dinner last night, the wonders of their hotel lift. They were genuinely impressed. And when they came back to the hotel last night they were delighted to experience their little lift excursion once again and in each other's company. Words like amazing and unbelievable and awesome were exchanged. And they laughed and marvelled and had a little fun, conducting themselves with that detached way old acquaintances have.
