The feeling of being committed - to something, to someone - can be utterly misled no matter how reassuringly real we may want it to look to our very eyes. One's own judgments have that funny built-in dichotomy - they can be both the truest and the faultiest, two ends of a vast land of emptiness - nothing in between, black or white - which our changing, freely specifiable frame of mind travels back and forth in no measurable time.
