His host at the ...

His host at the research institute handed him the keys of the rental flat where he was going to stay all through the summer up until mid fall. He was even kind enough to give him a ride in his car, since the place was far from the institute, in another part of Palermo. Once in the flat his host announced he had to leave to attend other commitments, not without first dropping a few explanations on daily matters such as where to buy food, where to find a good restaurant, or what the procedure was to pay the rent. He expounded a bit on the latter, revealing that someone would show up on the first friday afternoon of every month to fetch the income. This person would also ask for the monthly wages from the hard work in the yard of the apartment - mowing the lawn, chopping the few trees, watering the flowers. And, he also added, his guest better not bother to tell that strange visitor the flat happened not to have a garden.
